Solar panels and LED lights are very reliable and it is extremely rare to have a defect with those parts. More than 90% of the time when a solar light does not work after installation, it has to do with either the batteries or the installation.
When Solar Lights don’t work after installation:
If you just installed your Solar Lights and they are not charging or lighting up, there are a few easy things to check over.
Is the solar panel receiving plenty of sunlight? Make sure the solar panel is clean and not obstructed.
Make sure the battery is installed properly and connecting. Some lights come with a plastic film separating the battery from the connecting part.
Did you use the switch to turn the light on?
Make sure the battery is fully charged to start with. Some batteries sit too long in a warehouse and the charge can drain. So to make sure they are fully charged, keep the light off and let the battery charge in the sun for 2-3 days before turning the light on again.
If they still don’t work properly, call the manufacturer. They know their product better than the store that sold it to you and can help you trouble shoot or fix it for you. If the batteries are defective, they can easily be replaced and the manufacturer will usually replace them if it is still under warranty. If other parts are defective and it is still under warranty the manufacturer will replace it for you, either just the part or the entire unit.
If you just want to return the light without defect, you must contact the store that sold it to you. Depends on their return policy there might be a restocking fee or some other cost to the return, and might not get a full refund. Yonofoco, unlike most stores will allow you to return your product for a full refund. You just need to pay for the return shipping.
When Solar Lights stopped working after warranty is up.
Most likely problem is the battery died and needs to be replaced. Since it is after warranty, this is a relatively inexpensive fix. You can either go to your local hardware store or online at Yonofoco to order the replacement batteries. Batteries are the first to wear out on a solar light. The LED lights will last 10-20 years and the solar panel even longer.
If changing the battery doesn’t work, it is best to call the manufacturer to help you trouble shoot. Even if they won’t replace the light or the problem part because it’s after the warranty, they can still help you figure out what is wrong and help you fix it. It just means you will need to pay for the replacement part.
There are many benefits to solar lights including free energy, carbon neutral, convenient installation. But as with anything new, there are some drawbacks which include the reliance on batteries and plenty of sunlight. So keep that in mind as you purchase, install and enjoy your new solar lights.
